Yes — Mas Maya Coating can be used on Gotelé, as long as the wall is solid, stable, and properly prepared.
Gotelé walls have a strong visual texture, but with the right method, they can be softened into a smooth, continuous surface with the natural depth and calm tactility of Mas Maya Coating. The key is preparation: Mas Maya Coating is thin and expressive, so the surface beneath needs to be clean, stable, and even enough to support the finish.
For a standard interior Gotelé wall in good condition, we recommend the 2-layer method without Mas Maya Mesh. If the wall has cracks, joints, movement, loose paint, or deeper irregular texture, it should first be repaired or levelled with Mas Maya Prep — and in more challenging cases, the Mas Maya Mesh system should be used.
When Can You Apply Mas Maya Coating Directly Over Gotelé?
You can apply Mas Maya Coating over Gotelé using the 2-layer method without Mas Maya Mesh when the wall is:
If there are imperfections deeper than 3 mm, fill and level them first with Mas Maya Prep. For deeper or more irregular textures, skim the wall with Mas Maya Prep to create a flatter surface before applying Mas Maya Primer.

How to Apply Mas Maya Coating on Gotelé
Start by inspecting the wall carefully. Remove any loose paint, weak material, dust, nails, hooks, or fittings.
Fill cracks, gaps, or imperfections deeper than 3 mm with Mas Maya Prep, then level smooth. Once repaired, wipe the surface with a damp sponge or cloth to remove dust and allow it to dry.
A calm finish begins with a quiet surface beneath it — the more care you take here, the more refined the final result will be.
Stir Mas Maya Primer thoroughly before use.
Apply one thin, even coat using a short-pile roller or brush. Avoid puddles or heavy build-up.
Allow the primer to set for at least 30 minutes, but no longer than 24 hours, before applying Mas Maya Coating. The surface should feel slightly tacky when ready.
For Gotelé walls, use the wall and ceiling mixing ratio:
330 ml of water per 1 kg of Mas Maya Coating powder
Add the powder slowly into the water — not the other way around — and mix gently with a handheld plaster mixer until the texture is smooth, creamy, and yoghurt-like.
Allow the mixture to rest for 15 minutes, then stir again before applying.
If you are using pigment, dissolve the pigment fully in the water before adding the Mas Maya Coating powder. Keep batch sizes consistent to maintain an even colour across the wall.
Apply a 2 mm layer of Mas Maya Coating with a steel trowel.
Spread it evenly across the Gotelé surface, pressing firmly so the material covers and begins to fill the texture beneath.
Allow the first layer to dry until it is firm to the touch.
Apply a second 2 mm layer of fresh Mas Maya Coating with a clean steel trowel.
Use smooth, overlapping strokes and work wet-into-wet to avoid visible join lines. Keep the trowel edge clean as you work to prevent drag marks.
Where possible, plan to complete the full wall in one session and stop only at natural edges such as corners, door frames, or architectural breaks.
Once the finishing layer is firm but not fully dry, lightly mist the surface with clean water.
Use the Mas Maya Foam Float in circular strokes to bring a soft surface cream to the top. If the float sticks, mist a little more water so it glides smoothly.
Then use a flat-edged steel or plastic trowel to compress and spread the surface cream, filling small holes and refining the finish.
The final surface should feel soft, polished, and even to the touch.
Do You Need to Seal Mas Maya Coating on Gotelé?
For standard interior walls in dry, low-contact rooms, sealing is usually not required.
If the wall is in a space exposed to splashes, stains, cleaning, or heavier use, apply:
Before applying Mas Maya Sealer, Mas Maya Presealer should always be used. This helps preserve the colour of Mas Maya Coating and creates an even surface for the final sealer.
When applying Mas Maya Sealer, mix 5 parts Component A with 1 part Component B, stir slowly, allow the mixture to rest for 5 minutes, and apply in thin coats. Allow the first coat to dry for at least 8 hours before applying the second. The surface is fully cured after 72 hours.
Gotelé doesn’t have to define the atmosphere of a room forever. With careful preparation and the right application method, Mas Maya Coating can transform textured walls into a calm, continuous surface that feels natural, tactile, and quietly refined.
The result is not just a smoother wall, but a softer backdrop for daily life — breathable, mineral, and made to sit beautifully within contemporary interiors.
