Mas Maya Coating is a natural material that is lovely to work with. As with all such materials, the quality of the preparation and application will determine the end result.
We have created the following text and video tutorials to help guide you. Full written instructions can also be found here.

Applying Mas Maya Coating
Although Mas Maya Coating is a versatile material that can be applied in many ways, we generally recommend a two-layer application with Mesh and a polished finish. This finish is easier to clean and much simpler to seal effectively — an important detail for floors, bathrooms, and other areas exposed to moisture or frequent use. While single-layer, non-Mesh applications or rustic finishes are also possible, the two-layer polished system provides the best balance of durability, functionality, and refined appearance.
The application process is carried out in three stages:

The base layer provides structure and embeds the Mas Maya Mesh, which is recommended for most installations — especially floors, tiles, wood, pools, or any surface with joints, cracks, texture, or movement.
Steps:

This is the final visible layer that defines the look and texture of the surface.
Steps:

Smoothing and polishing close the surface pores and create the final texture. Begin only when the coating is firm and no longer changes under light pressure (around 15–20% moisture if using a meter).
Steps:
Sealing Mas Maya Coating
Applying Sealer to Mas Maya Coating protects the surface and enhances its performance, forming a durable barrier against moisture, stains, and everyday wear. While the coating can be left unsealed for a more natural, matte appearance that allows full breathability, doing so leaves it more vulnerable to marks, water absorption, and surface wear — especially in damp or high-use spaces. For this reason, sealing is recommended in most installations to preserve both the beauty and longevity of the finish.
For most projects, a combination of Mas Maya Presealer and Mas Maya Sealer provides the ideal level of protection. The Presealer balances absorption and helps maintain the coating’s original colour tone, while the Sealer forms a tough, moisture-resistant layer perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, and exteriors.
For enhanced protection in high-traffic or commercial environments, the Mas Maya Heavy-Duty Sealer can be added as an optional extra. This additional layer increases resistance to abrasion and wear, ensuring the surface remains strong and beautiful even under heavy use.

Mas Maya Presealer is a water-based, breathable layer that locks in the colour of the coating, seals open pores, and prepares the surface for Sealer.
Skipping this step will cause the colour to darken and absorb unevenly.
Steps:

Mas Maya Sealer is a two-component polyurethane system that protects and enhances Mas Maya Coating with a matte, durable, and waterproof finish — ideal for high-traffic or moisture-prone areas.
Always apply Presealer first to preserve colour and ensure even absorption.
Steps:
Tips:
Apply thin, even coats and always use a second dry roller to remove excess. For high-traffic or exterior areas, finish with Mas Maya Heavy-Duty Sealer for extra protection.

Mas Maya Heavy-Duty Sealer is a two-component, solvent-based polyurethane system made for high-traffic and high-exposure areas. It offers exceptional resistance to abrasion, chemicals, moisture, and UV — ideal for floors, steps, exteriors, commercial spaces, and pools.
Always apply Presealer and Sealer first to maintain colour and ensure even absorption.
Steps:
Tips:
Apply in thin, even coats with good airflow. For long-term durability in floors, steps, exteriors, or pools, Heavy-Duty Sealer is the recommended finish.
Tips and Tricks
Below, you’ll find practical guidance for achieving a flawless Mas Maya finish, especially when working in more detailed or challenging areas. This includes how to approach inside and outside corners, plan the order of application (i.e. which surfaces to complete first and in what sequence), and adapt your technique for curved or uneven surfaces. You’ll also learn how to carry out small repairs, maintain consistency across larger areas, and which tools will help make these steps easier.

Thoughtful planning ensures a smooth, consistent finish and helps prevent visible lines or uneven drying. Mas Maya Coating is a handcrafted material, so a considered approach makes all the difference.
Steps:
Tips:
Have all materials ready — Primer, Mesh, Coating, and Sealers — and work methodically through each stage. A calm, well-planned process ensures a clean, even result every time.

Inside corners need extra attention for clean lines and a smooth transition between surfaces.
Key Guidelines:
Tips:
Work carefully and avoid overloading material in the joint. A light hand and clean tools ensure a crisp, seamless corner.

Outside corners benefit from a soft, curved edge for strength and durability while maintaining a smooth, seamless look.
Key Guidelines:
Tips:
Work with light pressure and consistent motion to keep the curve uniform. Avoid excess material at the edge — thinner, smoother layers create a stronger finish.

Curved areas — such as archways, rounded walls, columns, and curved corners — require a slower, more delicate approach. With the right tools and care, they showcase the natural softness and seamless quality of Mas Maya Coating.
Key Guidelines:
Tips:
Patience and precision are key. Keep tools clean, layers thin, and movements smooth to achieve a flawless, flowing finish.

Small marks, scratches, or chips can be easily repaired using a little Mas Maya Coating and basic tools. This method is suitable for surface imperfections up to about 2–3 mm deep.
Key Guidelines:
Tips:
Use a plastic spatula to avoid scratching nearby surfaces. Blend edges carefully and colour-match the coating for an invisible repair. For light surface scratches, sanding and resealing may be all that’s needed.

            Areas
Mas Maya Coating is designed to adapt beautifully across a wide range of surfaces — from walls and ceilings to floors, bathrooms, pools, and bespoke furniture pieces.
Each area brings its own set of requirements, and we’ve outlined clear, step-by-step instructions to help you achieve the best results.

Ceilings require a steady hand and thoughtful pacing. Working overhead means planning each step carefully to maintain an even, seamless surface while keeping comfort and control in mind.

Pools require extra care and patience. Because they’re constantly exposed to water and temperature changes, the key to success is slow, even drying and proper sealing. With the right preparation, Mas Maya Coating creates a smooth, durable surface that feels natural underwater.
Key Guidelines:
Tips:
A steady rhythm and controlled environment are key — the slower the drying process, the stronger and more beautiful the final waterproof finish will be.

Bathrooms combine moisture, movement, and daily wear — so applying Mas Maya Coating here requires extra care to ensure a waterproof, spot-free finish. With proper sealing and attention to detail, the result is a calm, natural surface that performs beautifully in wet conditions.
