About Mas Maya
Mas Maya architectural plaster draws inspiration from an ancient coating discovered during a holiday in Mexico. This unique plaster, used by the Mayan people for over 2000 years, captivated us with its natural beauty, versatility, and durability.
Upon returning to Spain, and with the guidance of a Mexican expert, we developed a contemporary European version of this ancient legacy using locally sourced materials.
What is Mas Maya Coating Made Of?
Mas Maya plaster primarily consists of limestone, with a small amount of white cement acting as a binder. Additionally, it contains various plant extracts that provide unique benefits:
- Flexibility: Prevents cracking
- Strong Adhesion: Suitable for multiple surfaces
- Water Resistance
- Prolonged Working Time: Easier to work with during installation
How Natural is It?
Mas Maya is natural, breathable, and free from VOCs, chemicals, or additives. It regulates humidity by absorbing moisture in humid environments and releasing it when dry. This makes it ideal for homes with damp issues and beneficial for residents with lung conditions.
Application Versatility
Mas Maya's exceptional adhesion allows it to be applied to diverse surfaces without compromising performance and durability. It can be directly applied onto tiles, wood, brick, and existing plaster, making it a cost-effective and efficient choice for renovations. Its natural water-resistant property makes it perfect for bathrooms and swimming pools.
We use Mas Maya in all areas of our properties, including interiors (floors, walls, ceilings, wooden doors, built-in furniture, bathrooms, and kitchens) and exteriors (facades, swimming pools, and terraces). The material provides a minimalist, serene aesthetic, creating a smooth, calming, and evocative presence.

Appearance and Finish
Mas Maya offers an elegant, warm aesthetic with exceptional durability. The natural, off-white color eliminates the need for painting. It comes in various aesthetic and textural finishes:
Aesthetics:
- Flat | Consistent (like a painted wall)
- Organic | Cloudy (artistic effect)
Texture:
- Rustic (uneven, rough)
- Polished | Silky Smooth (like the inside of a shell)
The aesthetic and texture variations depend on the number of coats applied and the techniques used during installation. For instance, a rustic texture results from one coat, while a polished, smooth texture and an organic, cloudy effect require two coats.
