Can Mas Maya Coating Be Applied on Top of Microcement?
Yes, Mas Maya Coating is well-suited for application on top of microcement. It provides a durable, breathable, and aesthetically pleasing finish that enhances the natural look of microcement surfaces.
This coating adheres well to microcement, creating a seamless and resilient surface that is both water-resistant and flexible, which helps to prevent cracking.
1. Surface Preparation:
- Remove all nails and repair any cracks or damaged areas on the Gotelé surface using Mas Maya Base. The surface should be smooth and flat before applying Mas Maya Coating.
- Clean the surface thoroughly to remove dust, grease, or loose particles.
- Apply Mas Maya Primer (Puente de Unión) to the Gotelé surface to enhance adhesion. Follow the manufacturer's instructions for drying time. The surface should feel tacky to the touch once the primer is dry.
2. Mixing:
- Mix the Mas Maya Coating powder with clean water, using a ratio of 1/3 liter of water per kilogram of powder.
- Use a mechanical drill to mix the powder and water until a smooth, yoghurt-like texture is achieved. Allow the mixture to rest for 15 minutes before use.
3. Application:
- First Layer:
- Using a steel plaster trowel, apply a thin, even coat of approximately 2mm of Mas Maya Coating across the entire Gotelé surface. Hold the trowel at a shallow angle (about 15-30 degrees) for best results.
- Let the first layer dry until set but slightly damp, usually a few hours depending on conditions.
- Second Layer:
- Apply the second layer of Mas Maya Coating in a similar manner to the first. After applying, let it dry partially, then lightly spray the surface with water and burnish it with a steel trowel to create a smooth finish.
- Allow the second layer to dry overnight.
4. Finishing:
- Sanding:
- Sand the surface lightly with fine-grit sandpaper (e.g., 200 grain) to achieve a smooth finish.
- Clean the surface thoroughly to remove any dust.
- Optional Sealing:
- For added durability and water resistance, especially in high-traffic or moisture-prone areas, apply Mas Maya Sealer after first applying Mas Maya Presealer for optimal color preservation.
