Installation Guide
1. Surface Preparation
- Repair imperfections: Fill any cracks, gaps, or holes and smooth the surface, including
filling grout lines between tiles. Ensure the surface is flat and smooth before moving
on. - Apply Primer: Use Mas Maya Primer to improve adhesion.
- Apply Mesh: Lay Mas Maya Mesh on top of the Primer. Allow 30 minutes to partly dry.
2. Mix the Mas Maya Coating
- Optional Pigment: If adding colour pigment, mix it evenly into the water before combining with the coating powder.
- Mix Water and Coating: Add 1/3 liter of clean water for every kilogram of Mas Maya Coating powder.
- Mixing Process: Stir the mixture by hand or with a mechanical drill until smooth and consistent, resembling yogurt. Allow the mixture to rest for 15 minutes, then give it a final stir.
3. Application Process
First Layer:
- Trowel Application: Use a steel trowel to apply a thin layer (~2 mm) across the surface, holding the trowel at a shallow angle (15-30°).
- Mesh: If applying on top of Mas Maya Mesh (e.g. for Floors or Tiles), ensure the first layer completely covers the Mesh.
Second Layer:
- Drying Time: Allow the first layer to dry until it is set but still slightly damp to the touch. This typically takes a few hours, depending on the climate.
- Optional Water Mist: Lightly mist the surface with water to extend working time if needed.
- Trowel Application: Apply the second coat with slightly overlapping strokes at different angles for a more organic finish.
Burnishing:
- When to Burnish: Begin burnishing when the second coat is partially dry but still pliable.
- Process: Lightly spray the material with water and rework it while applying pressure using a clean trowel. This will help create a smooth, polished finish.
- Final Drying: Allow the material to dry overnight.
4. Finishing
- Sanding: Use an orbital sander or fine-grit sandpaper (around 200 grain) to smooth and polish the surface.
- Cleaning: Wipe down the surface to remove any dust.
- Apply Presealer: Use two coats of Mas Maya Presealer, waiting 4 hours between coats.
- Apply Sealer: After 12 hours, apply two coats of Mas Maya Sealer with a short-hair roller.
- Apply Heavy-Duty Sealer (Optional): For maximum durability, apply an additional two coats of Mas Maya Heavy-Duty Sealer.
